Glowing fungi are both aesthetically beautiful and scientifically relevant. Bioluminescent fungi glow in complete darkness, while fluorescent fungi appear to glow under ultraviolet light. In this talk, Alan Rockefeller highlights species of bioluminescent and fluorescent fungi, and shares his photos of crowd favorites from across the globe. Strategies for finding and photographing glowing fungi will be discussed, and participation in helping to document glowing fungi on iNaturalist strongly encouraged. Mushrooms of Ecuador Ecuador, a country with roughly the same area as the state of Colorado, is one of seventeen megadiverse countries of the world and sustains unique biodiversity within different forests, habitats and microhabitats. Ecuador is home to countless species yet to be discovered, particularly fungi new to science. Yet the fragility of these ecosystems and looming threats of destruction mean the clock is ticking for species documentation. In this talk, Alan Rockefeller showcases his favorite finds over three years of explorations in the upper Ecuadorian Amazon. He will explain his work and partnerships in the region meanwhile featuring fungi such as colorful Mycena, unusual Cordyceps and rare Psilocybe in stunning high resolution photos.
